- The toolbar is way of very quickly accessing common functions directly from a graph window, or for changing the way the mouse pointer (cursor) works.

- From top to bottom, the tools are:

- Marquee tool- allows a selection to be made in the graph.
- Arrow tool- the default tool; has no specific action of its own.
- Label tool- opens the Labels Dialog.
- Scales tool- opens the Scales dialog which allows the domain, range and type of graph to be changed.
- Function tool- opens the Define Function dialog.
- Secondary Variable tool- opens the Secondary Variables dialog.
- Cut tool- places the current graph or selection on the clipboard.

- The toolbar also contains pop-up menus for changing the colours of the graph, scale grid and trace on colour capable Macintosh’s.

- A tool is activated simply by clicking it.
